The semiconductor industry is becoming a strategic priority. The state governments of Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt are investing in it and aiming to attract scientists and tech companies. Among the invited institutions was our university, UJEP.

Semiconductors are a key technology for both industry and electronics. Germany and the Czech Republic are therefore striving to increase their competitiveness in this strategic sector, which has so far been dominated mainly by Asia and the United States.
The meeting took place in Dresden and Magdeburg, Germany — cities emerging as key semiconductor hubs. It was attended by top representatives of the regional governments, including Jürgen Ude, State Secretary for Strategic Investments in the government of Saxony-Anhalt, and Prof. Jens Strackeljan, Rector of Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg.
The Czech Republic was represented — and the entire mission coordinated — by Consul Ivona Valhová. Other participants included representatives from CzechInvest and the Innovation Center of the Ústí Region.
“It is an honor for us to have been invited to the meeting alongside other Czech and German universities. Real opportunities for future cross-border cooperation were outlined,” said Assoc. Prof. Jiří Orava, Head of the Department of Environmental Chemistry and Technology at the Faculty of Environment, UJEP.
