New doctoral study program

The Faculty of Environment has successfully secured accreditation for a new doctoral program in English. This program is distinguished by its interdisciplinary approach and international scope, making it exceptional not only within UJEP but also in the broader context of Czech higher education. The new field of study, titled “Environmental and Biomaterial Sciences,” focuses on groundbreaking scientific discoveries and the application of modern materials in environmental and biomedical contexts.

The program has been accredited through a collaboration between the Faculty of Environmental Studies (FŽP), the Faculty of Science (PřF) at UJEP, the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences (ÚACH AV ČR, v. v. i.) in Řež, and the Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems IKTS (Dresden). It builds upon the existing scientific cooperation among these institutions and further strengthens their ties in training new researchers. Additionally, the program includes specialized practical training involving the Health Institute based in Ústí nad Labem and Masaryk Hospital in Ústí nad Labem, o. z.

The program will integrate existing research teams that have consistently achieved excellent results in fields such as environmental chemistry, materials chemistry and physics, biochemistry, biotechnology, and biomaterials, into cross-faculty research-education structures.

“The program is deliberately conducted in English, as students will actively collaborate in international teams during their studies. Graduates are expected to engage in complex and multidisciplinary scientific research projects that require international solutions,” says Associate Professor Jiří Orava, the program coordinator from the Faculty of Environmental Studies at UJEP.
